2029/30 – Mlada Boleslav Season 2

Good evening all and welcome to my latest post on the Alphabet Challenge. Sorry for the wait on a new update, its been a long tiring few weeks of work and looking after a baby!

Just a quick recap, last time around we were in the Czech Republic with Mlada Boleslav, in our first season we came 4th in the league. I had high expectations for the next season, with the right additions I was confident of a decent challenge for the title.

By the end of the season we were incredibly thin on the ground with players. We had too many poor players and lots of loanees. We were given a decent transfer budget of £2m. The first problem was we lost our best player Vincent Njewel to Ajax when they activated his £2.2m release clause. This was a severe loss but also added some more money to the budget.

We made a few additions to the squad. Strikers were much needed and also we had no decent CBs and No RWs.

Here are the transfers I made:

Peter Scott was a RW, Fomin, Sedlacek and Novotny were all CBs. Maes is a CM and was really needed to add some creativity to the midfield. The other 2 were back-up loanees.

We also extended the loans of 2 players Boyko (RW) and Chantsev (ML/ST). Both were instrumental to a very successful season.

A 4th place finish last season entered us into the Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round. It was a disappointing campaign where we lost straight the way to Braga.

In the Domestic Cup we got to the Semi Finals where we were knocked out by Bohemians. We had a decent run but I was disappointed not the reach the final

The we get to the league, it was a fansttic exciting campaign right until the end. Sparta Prageu, Jablonec and Ourselves made it a 3 horse race right until the final few games. We went into the final league game dead level with Sparta. 62 points. Only our Goals Scored put us top. Our final game was away to Jablonec who were 3 points behind, they could still win the title if they beat us emphatically.

Luckily we kept our nerve and beat Jablonec 4-2. Sparta lost! The title was ours, what an achievement it was. We fully deserved the win. We were top for the majority of the season

We also swept the board in the end of season awards. I won the manager of the year

Boyko won player of the year

Foreign player of the year went to Denis Maes,

We also got 5 players into the team of the year

What a season! Unexpected yes, but richly deserved. We now move onto the next “C” league, we have Chile and Colombia left

Thanks for reading, hopefully the next update wont take so long to come around!
