2028/29 – Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic)

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to my latest update in the Alphabet Challenge. Last time out we were in China with Shenhua and we managed to win the league in our first season.

The Chinese season finished in late 2027, it didn’t take long to receive an interesting job offer in Czech Republic with Mlada Boleslav, not a household name but we were given a healthy transfer budget of £5.5m. I accepted immediately.

Mlada Boleslav were currently 13th in the league (of 15) with 10 games to go. I wont divulge anything into the season apart from we survived and ended 8th in the league with a pretty decent run.

My aims for the 28/29 season was to improve on the 8th place, maybe push for Europe (Top 4). On the squad front we had 0 Centre Backs and all our Strikers were loanee’s  that was my main focus for transfers.

We ended up main quite a few transfers as you can see below.

Hanus, Harazim and Krejci are all Centre Backs, as we had 0 to start with a had to seriously strengthen. We had 1 CB in the reserve team who had been out on loan. All 3 signings were under 23, a big outlay but all looked incredibly solid.

Urban was signed as my back up Left Back

Cerny, Kurcera and Njewel are all Strikers, I did manage to re-sign 1 of my loanee’s for another season. Njewel was absolutely sensational all season and was by far my best player

In the league we had a pretty decent season, We ended 4th which was my expectation. We were quite a way off the top 2 but overall I was pleased. Hopefully next season we can strengthen further and push the top 2

We were never out of the top 4 all season but never near enough to make a serious title challenge. Mlada had previously won the league in 2023/24 but this was their next highest position and a massive improvement on the previous season.

The only other competition we were entered into was the Czech FA Cup. We were knocked out in the 2nd round 3-1 to Slovacko. Disappointing! The good news is 4th place was good enough for entry into the Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round.

Onto the end of season awards, we received none. The only pleasing thing was we had 2 players in the Czech team of the year

Thanks for reading, really hoping next season will be the title win that we need t progress into our next Country.
