2027 – Shenhua (China)

Good afternoon all and welcome to the latest update in the Alphabet Challenge, apologies if this is quite short, to be honest the season has been pretty boring!

Just to recap, last time out we won the Croatian Top Division with Rijeka after one of the greatest comebacks I’ve ever seen!

It took quite a while to get a job that appealed. As I’m trying to win every league I have to be picky and pick the team that had the best chance. The offers I received weren’t good enough until I received an offer to take over Shenhua in China. In the 2026 season they had come 2nd in the league so I knew I had a damn good chance of an instant league win.

The squad looked pretty good but were desperately short in Midfield and at Left Back.

Here are the transfers I made

Yi Shuangcai is a Defensive Midfielder, very good physicals and also good on the ball. He had a pretty good season overall

Wang Weldong is an 18 year old Central Midfielder, he spent most season out on loan

Chen Hui can play RW or CM, he is 28 and a Chinese International

Liu Song is an experienced Goalkeeper and had an amazing season as first choice

Yuan Minzhi and Chen Shuai are both LBs, Shuai was my first choice and was very very good

So there’s a quick run through the transfers, we had a healthy budget which helped in strengthening the squad. We had serious problems through the season with players complaining about lack of football mainly down to lots of lots of poor players who thought the were first teamers!

On to the domestic season and what a season it was! We ended up winning the league with 1 game to go. Guangzhou were leading most of the season until we hammered them 7-2 away from home with 6 games to go. After this we lead and fully deserved the title

It was a fantastic season but very uneventful, a pretty comfortable league win.

We were also entered into the Asian Champions League but we were knocked out in the group stage

Incredibly poor, we lost our first 2 games, getting thrashed by both Central Coast Mariners and Okayama, it was an uphill task, we did have a chance to go through but lost our final game to Seoul 1-0 at home to get knocked out.

The final competition we were entered into was the Chinese FA Cup. We were given a bye into the 4th round and got all the way to final against Guanghzou. We won the home leg 3-2 but managed to throw it away in the away leg which we lost 2-0. It was a disappointing end to a pretty successful season/

Finally to the end of season awards. By far our best player was Ko Min- Sung

Alongside Zhang Yi up front they destroyed the division scoring 48 league goals between them

Min-Sung swept the board with end of season awards winning player of the year and foreign player of the year, he also broke the record for the highest average rating

Zhang Yi as mentioned before was sensational as well scoring 31 goals which was a new league record

So there you go another incredibly successful and slightly easy season. We now move onto the next “C” league, we have Czech Republic, Colombia and Chile left.

Thanks for reading, sorry for the short update, work and a new born baby has really squeezed my time at the moment!
